Swedish-Ethiopian Association

Svensk-Etiopiska föreningen är en opolitisk, religiöst obunden vänskapsförening som bildades i Stockholm 1952. De breda och djupa kontakterna mellan Sverige och Etiopien, som grundlades redan på 1950-talet, är basen och den gemensamma bakgrunden för föreningens medlemmar. Även etiopier bosatta i Sverige har tillfört föreningen ökad kunskap och förståelse för Etiopien, dess land och folk.

    [DW] Reports that factions involved in Ethiopia's Tigray conflict are readying themselves to fight again raise concerns that the country's fragile truce may shatter.

    [VOA] Gashena -- A total of 1.39 million children in the Tigray region are currently missing out on education because of Ethiopia's civil war, according to the United Nations.
  • Sudanese Farmers Killed By Ethiopian 'Shifta' in Cross Border Attack
    [Dabanga] Galabat -- Two Sudanese farmers were killed and another wounded in an attack by Ethiopian gunmen (called shifta in the region) near Galabat in eastern Sudan on Monday. Sources from Galabat in El Gedaref report that the attack resulted in the deaths of farmers Arbab and Mohamed Adam. Farmer Abdallah Matar was injured, and was taken to the El Gedaref Hospital.
  • Kuwait to Set 90 Dinars Monthly Salary for Ethiopian Domestic Workers
    [Addis Standard] Addis Abeba -- Khaled Al-Dakhnan, the head of Kuwait's Federation of Domestic Labor Recruitment Offices, said the salary of new Ethiopian domestic workers in Kuwait will be set around 90 dinars per month (=$293).
  • WB Signs U.S.$300 Million Grant Agreement to Support Recovery of Conflict-Affected Areas in Ethiopia
    [Addis Standard] Addis Abeba -- The World Bank (WB) signed a grant agreement amounting to US$300 million (ETB 15.6 billion) with the Ministry of Finance to support the reconstruction and recovery efforts of conflict-affected areas in Ethiopia, the Ministry said.
  • Amhara State Cautions Individuals to Register Private Weapons Within Four Days
    [Addis Standard] Addis Abeba -- The Amhara Regional State Peace and Security Bureau announced that the registration of arms that were not previously registered but are privately owned will be carried out for as of tomorrow 17 May for four consecutive days, regional media reported.

    [Addis Standard] Addis Abeba -- Eight out of 21 zones in the Oromia region are experiencing drought, according to the regional government.
