Swedish-Ethiopian Association

Svensk-Etiopiska föreningen är en opolitisk, religiöst obunden vänskapsförening som bildades i Stockholm 1952. De breda och djupa kontakterna mellan Sverige och Etiopien, som grundlades redan på 1950-talet, är basen och den gemensamma bakgrunden för föreningens medlemmar. Även etiopier bosatta i Sverige har tillfört föreningen ökad kunskap och förståelse för Etiopien, dess land och folk.

  • WB Approves U.S.$180 Million to Step-Up Support for Refugees, Host Communities
    [Addis Standard] Addis Abeba -- The World Bank's Board of Executive Directors approved the second phase of the Development Response to Displacement Impacts Project in the Horn of Africa (DRDIP II) for $180 million in International Development Association (IDA) financing to help Ethiopia improve access to basic social and economic services, expand livelihood opportunities, and enhance environmental management for refugees and their host communities.
  • Rights Body Calls for End to Illegal Detention of 9,000 Tigrayans in Afar State
    [Addis Standard] Addis Abeba -- A new report by the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) said that in the month of May the Commission has followed and monitored the detention of around 9, 000 Tigrayans who are held "illegally and unconstitutionally" since December 2020 in Semera and Agatina camps in the town of Semera, Afar Regional state. The Commission has called for the immediate end to the detention.

    [VOA] Geneva -- A U.N. investigative panel is calling on the government of Ethiopia to end conflict-related rights violations on its territory and bring the perpetrators of crimes to justice. The commission has submitted its first report to the U.N. Human Rights Council.
  • Wolaita Statehood Aspirations Vis-a-Vis National Dialogue Process
    [Addis Standard] Addis Abeba -- In the course of the twice-postponed and contested Ethiopia's sixth national elections held last in June 2021 in some parts of the country, opposition parties, Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) and Oromo Federalist Congress (OFC) withdrew, citing the jailing, harassment, and intimidation of their members as reasons. The Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) followed suit, citing intimidation and harassment of its members by the Somali regional branch of the ruling party Prosperity party won the majority seats
