Swedish-Ethiopian Association

Svensk-Etiopiska föreningen är en opolitisk, religiöst obunden vänskapsförening som bildades i Stockholm 1952. De breda och djupa kontakterna mellan Sverige och Etiopien, som grundlades redan på 1950-talet, är basen och den gemensamma bakgrunden för föreningens medlemmar. Även etiopier bosatta i Sverige har tillfört föreningen ökad kunskap och förståelse för Etiopien, dess land och folk.

  1. [Nation] The Ethiopian government is facing new pressure from the US to slow down on the crackdown on the Tigray region for dialogue, with some rights groups warning of possible war crimes in the area.
  2. [DW] The United Nations has expressed concern about possible violations of international law and an increasingly dire refugee situation. The Ethiopian government has said the conflict is reaching its decisive stage.
  3. [New Frame] Fighting in the north of Ethiopia has resulted in nearly 100 000 Eritrean refugees being caught in the crossfire and their access to humanitarian aid cut off.
  4. [East African] Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Wednesday rejected more calls for dialogue over the Tigray crisis, terming continued pressure to de-escalate as outside interference.
  5. [Dalsan Radio] President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has backed the Ethiopian government in its fight in the Tigray region in what it calls a law enforcement operation.
  6. [Shabelle] The Security Advisor of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Gedu Andargachew has today briefed President of Somalia, Mohammed Abdulahi Mohammed Formajo on the government's law enforcement operation in Tigray.
  7. [East African] The Ethiopian government is facing new pressure from the US to stop the crackdown on the Tigray region, with some rights groups warning of possible war crimes in the area.

[IFRC] At the transit centres located in Lukdi in Gedaref and Hamdaiet in Kassala state, there is an urgent and immediate need for food and water, shelter, first aid and medical care as well as psychosocial support. The Red Crescent has distributed emergency relief items to 500 families and is mobilising more support from partners and the Sudanese government.
  9. [Nation] Ethiopian authorities on Tuesday detained nine Kenyans for allegedly sheltering Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) rebels.
  10. [Nation] Kenya and Ethiopia share a 779 km border which is largely porous. People along this border are disadvantaged in terms of development, political participation, economic inclusion, infrastructure, and other public services.
