Swedish-Ethiopian Association

Svensk-Etiopiska föreningen är en opolitisk, religiöst obunden vänskapsförening som bildades i Stockholm 1952. De breda och djupa kontakterna mellan Sverige och Etiopien, som grundlades redan på 1950-talet, är basen och den gemensamma bakgrunden för föreningens medlemmar. Även etiopier bosatta i Sverige har tillfört föreningen ökad kunskap och förståelse för Etiopien, dess land och folk.

  1. [ICRC] Addis Ababa/Geneva -- The President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Peter Maurer, called on parties to the conflict to show humanity as fighting intensifies in northern Ethiopia, deepening the suffering of families who have endured nearly one year of war.
  2. [allAfrica] Cape Town -- The international community should rally around former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo's peace mission in Ethiopia, or risk all-out civil war within the country and even a regional conflagration which draws in Sudan.
  3. [UNFPA] Mille, Afar, Ethiopia -- "When I had fistula, I never thought I would be able to have a normal life or get pregnant again," said 32-week pregnant Fatuma Hamad at the Barbara May Maternity Hospital in Afar Region.
  4. [Ethiopian Herald] Ethiopia has been striving to enhance green economic development in various ways. One of the outstanding efforts of the country in green development is the massive afforestation campaign of the "Green Legacy Initiative"

[Addis Standard] Addis Abeba -- Four members of the Ethiopian Social Justice Party (Ezema) who recently joined the House of Peoples' Representatives (HoPR) called on Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to appear in parliament to answer to their questions regarding the ongoing 'war for survival' in the northern Ethiopia.
  6. [DW] As Addis Ababa steps up its air offensive against the TPLF and Tigray forces advance on the ground, the situation for the civilian population is growing more desperate by the hour.
  7. [Ethiopian Herald] Addis Ababa -- The silence by some international mainstream media and the international community have given the green light to terrorist TPLF group to intensify its invasion and massacring people of Amhara and Afar, said Neamin Zeleke, a member of Global Ethiopian Advocacy Nexus and Former Prominent Politician.
  8. [Ethiopian Herald] Addis Ababa -- The European Union (EU) should hold the terrorist TPLF accountable for obstructing humanitarian assistance in Tigray, so said Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister of Ethiopia Demeke Mekonnen. Yesterday, Demeke held discussion with the Ambassadors of France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, and Slovakia in Ethiopia regarding the current situation of the country, according to the report of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.
  9. [Crisis Group] The combatants in northern Ethiopia are digging in for a long fight, despite high fatalities and famine conditions for civilians. The war looks set to worsen. Outside powers should back the African Union's new envoy in urging the parties to move instead toward a ceasefire.
  10. [Monitor] Crested Cranes coach George Lutalo made his intentions clear by naming seven forwards in his 20-man squad for today's return leg against Ethiopia in Addis Ababa.
